Well....Coco and Looch's mom just came and picked them up. It has been a long day for poor CoCo but that little guy has got the strongest will to live I have ever seen. He did have a few seizures today, but they are not as strong or as long lasting as they were yesterday. We managed to get him to take some BMl and even some Pedialyte (which he actually managed to chirp while licking!). He is acting even like he wants to get up and move around some! I am actually starting to believe he just might survive this! He has a couple of trully amazing owners who are very happy to take whatever measures they can to give him a chance at life. There are so many people out ther who wouldn't. This is one lucky little guy!

CoCo had a seizure at about 7 PM tonight, it was the worst seizure that he has had yet. It lasted 45 seconds to a full minute and I didn't think that he was going to make it out of it. When the seizure started, he was in my lap covered in blankets. He arched his back, began screeching, when I tried to grab him, so that he wouldn't fall out of my lap..he tried to bite me. If you knew CoCo, biting is something that you would never worry about with him.
I grabbed him off of the ground, held him to my chest and was somehow able to calm him down and stop the seizure. This seizure did him in. He lost all motor skills, he no longer has the ability to control any of his hand movements. When he tries to walk, his front feet just fold in and he falls down. He has a nervous "tick" in his head that causes him to move around rapidly. He doesn't respond to any noise and does not want to be touched. He is not crabbing, but he just tries to jump out of your hands when you pick him up.
I thought that he was going to pass tonight, there were 2 seperate instances where his breathing slowed to almost nothing, he began to salivate and then he would just "snap out of it." We have tried to give him fluids, BML, anything. He does open his mouth, but he just bites violently on the syringe and does not swallow anything that is put into his mouth.
He had 2 more seizures that were just about as severe as the first one later this evening. Again, I thought that each one was going to take him, and they didn't. We have placed him in a bonding pouch, with a ton of blankets and are still going to try to keep him as comfortable as we can. But I just don't know what to expect right now. If he is still with us in the morning, we are going to take him to the vet and see if he can do anything. I just feel like so much damage has been done to his brain that it is irreversable. When he looks around, he isn't looking at me or my wife anymore..it is almost like he stares through us..completely unresponsive.
The only option that we really have tonight is to take him to an emergency vet..and I feel like all that they are going to want to do is euthanize him. I really don't know what the right thing to do on this one is..I just know that this is not how I want to remember CoCo. It has absolutely broke my heart. At the same time, I don't want him to suffer any more either.
I don't know what to do.

Poor, sweet baby. Your family is in my thoughts tonight. It is a tough decision you have to make, but ultimately you are right. He can not suffer like this anymore. I would take hime to a knowledgeable vet in the morning (see if Angie can go with) and make your decicion then. Give him lots of kisses till then.

I am so sorry. Ozzy had seizures right before he died and they were absolutely awful to witness. We had to wrap Ozzy in fleece so that he wouldn't bite us during the seizures. I know exactly what you mean when you say this is not how you wish to remember CoCo. I wish there was an easy answer. I was ready to race to the vet because I didn't want Ozzy to be in any more pain, but a friend gently told me that if they were that bad, he probably wasn't feeling pain.
You might consider calling the vet and ask if they think they can do anything. CoCo is obviously a fighter, and you and your wife have been wonderful in supporting his will to live. Unfortunately, only you can decide whether to keep fighting, or if its time to let him go.
You and CoCo will remain in my thoughts tonite.

You will have to follow your heart now. I know CoCo and I know he truly know what he means to you and to others who have gotten to know him. I have been crying for a while, and just spoke to Mel, who is crying too, and I am feeling like you do. I want you and Jamie to know that Mel and I both understand how you feel and will be there for you no matter what happens. Please give CoCo a kiss from us, and tell him that we love him. Hug Looch tightly, I know he is feeling something is going on whith his brother from what you said earlier. I am still praying for CoCo, and for God to send him a special angel to led him to Rainbow Bridge. My prayers are with you during this time. Angie

First off, thank you all for your prayers and support. This board has been the way that I have coped with this and all of your responses help us deal with this more than you will know.
CoCo had another seizure right after I typed my last message. After this seizure, the strangest thing happened. He is no longer "twitching", he is walking better than he has in days and he is taking a little bit of pedialyte in BML in a syringe. He still doesn't like being held down, but he has again improved. This emotional roller coaster is devastating.
We will keep doing what we have been doing and get him to the vet first thing in the morning.
This is the most remarkable thing that I have ever seen in my entire life.

Well, he just took a full cc of pedialite followed by a full cc of bml. Then he had another seizure. Nothing like he had earlier this evening, but it wasn't a walk in the park either.
I don't understand it...the second that he is done with the seziure..he looks up at me like, "what's up?" His motor skills are better than they have been in days, he actually crawled up my arm a second ago and then crabbed at my wife (he hasn't crabbed in 3 days) for getting off of the couch too quickly.
I don't even know what to expect anymore...he is the toughest living creature that I have ever seen/been around/heard of.

Still praying for your little guy!! Isn't the strength of will some of these little ones have just amazing? Hoping he continues the fight and the vet can discover something to help. Don't give up on CoCo. As long as there is life there is hope. There are those who will disagree with Mary and I but with us euthanization is not an option. I applaude you for all your efforts to save this little one even when it seems futile. We are very lucky to have people like you in the glider community. Charlie H
I am hoping for a update soon on CoCo. I worried all night long, and now I am getting calls from others wanting to see how he is doing. The number of people who are praying for CoCo is amazing! This is truly a glider who has touched many hearts, including mine. I spoke to Dr. Murry's office this morning and gave him an update on what was going on with CoCo last night, I think a return vet visit is in order if possilbe, of course if you need help with him, we are more than willing, and we expect you to call us. Dr. Murry thinks CoCo could benifit from some more sub q fluids today and will reassess him. Angie

It was a very rough night. He had 4 more seizures from midnight on, and they were pretty severe seizures. His mom tried to keep him as comfortable as she could, and kep trying to keep fluids in him. We were preparing to take him to the vet this morning when Jamie called me at work to tell me that he wasn't breathing.
He fought, and fought, and fought...and when we thought that he didn't have anything left...he fought some more. He has truly been an inspiration to me and I am honored to have been able to get to know CoCo.
Angie, I will call you later on this morning. I am at work, and trying not to lose it. I am afraid that if I do talk about it, I will lose it. Jamie tried to get Looch out of his cage this morning and she couldn't get him...he is very crabby. I probably should have gotten him out and put him in his pouch before I left this morning, I just wasn't thinking. Looch ate all of his BML last night and some collard greens and bananas...which is a relief. But he is still acting very down. I am probably going to go home and get him at lunch.
Thank you all for your support, thoughts and prayers on this. I truly believe that CoCo knew how many people were pulling for him, and it is why he fought so long and hard. His poor little body just couldn't take anymore of those violent seizures and the only relief that I have right now is knowing that he will never have to go through one of those again.

I am so sorry. I had so hoped the little guy would make it. It may be good to give Looch a chance to see CoCo's body. You may not see much reaction (Chip sniffed and went back to sleep.), but that way Looch will know what has happened.
Hugs to you and yours. ~Lynn

I'm very sorry to hear this news. My prayers are with you and your family. All of us understand your grief, and your love and care of him was were remarkable. You did all you could.
It's probably too late for this, but if by chance you've refrigerated the body for now, would it be possible to take it to a vet for a necropsy, to find out the cause of death? I know it's hard to think of that in your grief, and you may not want to -- but it also may help you to realize there was nothing more that you could have done, and it could help us understand more about glider deaths and help us help others.
I hesitate to even suggest this, knowing how much pain you feel, but thought it might be something you'd want to consider.
