Again, thanks for all of the kind words and even taking the time to read and reply to this thread. You guys have been able to help me and my wife through this more than you will know. This board has been our "therapy". I went home and got Looch. I opened his cage and he crawled right to me, chirping the whole way. It put an instant smile on my face. I put on a pocket t-shirt under my golf shirt and put Looch in the pocket. I loaded up some syringes with dextrose, water, BML, and pedilite and got some dried fruit and loaded up and we are at work now. The vet believes that Looch is hypoglycmic as well...he is just a little more independant than CoCo was and doesn't allow his blood sugar levels to get low. He is always eating, but from this moment on, Looch will never leave the house without liquids and food in tow. And he won't be at home alone again until we can find him a friend. Call me paranoid, but I will not allow him to go through anything close to what CoCo just endured. I saw CoCo, and I actually felt better. He was peaceful. When I left him this morning, he was twitching, couldn't get comfortable and you could tell that he was just miserable. He is resting now, and for this, I am grateful. Lucy, I did not refrigerate the body...I didn't even think about it. At this point, I don't even know how to feel about a necropsy. I kind of wish that I had refrigerated him, because he might have helped future gliders...but I think that it is too late now. I am feeling much better now, I was able to deal with some things when I got home that I couldn't comfortably deal with while at work. Looch is in my t-shirt right now, I think that we are both helping each other out.

I am SO sorry!! This little dude put up a HUGE fight for such a tiny guy! Clearly he didn't want to leave his folks, but the tiny body just had too much. You really did everything possible, and he knows that. Sending lots of and prayers for time to heal. He'll be waiting for you at the bridge.

Jen's right!
All of our lost babies are taking care of him now at the Rainbow Bridge. Because he was such a fighter, I'm sure he was given "Teacher/Guardian" and/or "Sage" status immediately.
Best wishes.

I just thought that I was doing better. Looch was a life saver for me at work today. He was curled up in my tee pocket most of the day. Just feeling him there was comfort to my heart. It's like, I hardly even heart. At one point, I felt almost guilty for not being overly upset. "Why should I be upset, he is in a better place?" I thought to myself. Well, De Nile isn't just a river in Africa. I wasn't upset because it still hadn't REALLY sunk in yet. I came home to a house with 3 bawling baby boys. My 9 year old was having the hardest time dealing with it. I actually printed off the rainbow poem for him and he read it...I then held him for the next 10 minutes as he bawled in my chest. He doesn't understand why God took CoCo when he asked God not to. I do not really have an answer for that. I told him to go to his room and write down how he felt, my son is a very good writer, and I know that this helps me sometimes...hopefully, it helps him. I then looked at my wife, and her chin started quivering and the tears started rolling. "I just want to feed him again. I wouldn't have minded doing it." I lost it. CoCo was only a member of our family for a week, but for every person that he came across, he touched their life dramatically. My mother met CoCo once, doesn't even like animals, and called me crying today when she heard the news. He has left such a lasting mark on this family, his family. I am just a nervous wreck right now. I think that every move that Looch makes means that he is getting sick too... "Oh, Looch didn't move quickly enough then, he is getting sick." and "Oh, Looch had only 4 meal worms tonight instead of 6 or 7." I think that he is sad too, but I am so worried that he is going to go down the same road that CoCo did..when realistically, he hasn't shown any of the same signs that CoCo did. I am still going to take him to the vet tomorrow, have a fecal smear done, just to be on the safe side. No other creature on this planet deserves to go through what CoCo did. It is wet, cold and rainy here in TX right now and I just couldn't put CoCo in the ground tonight. The thought of him being out there makes me so sick to my stomnach. I wrapped him up in his blankets, put him in a ziploc bag and placed him in the freezer. We will do something with him this weekend I guess.

My goes out to all of your family. I am just beyond worried about Looch right now. He is lethargic, just wants to sleep all the time and has little interest in playing. He is still eating, seems to show good balance, seems to be hydrated (we are have been, and still are feeding him fluids through a syringe as often as he will possibly take them.) Looch is going to the vet first thing in the morning. We are going to run everything that we can on him....we have got to either a) make sure that he is okay, or b) find out what is going on with these brothers. Something is just not right. I have tried to be as nice as I possibly could throughout this whole ordeal to the " breeder" that we purchased these guys through. And I will continue to try to take the high road on this. But I am very close to a breaking point on this issue, and I just truly, truly hope that Looch is ok. The loss of CoCo has effected my entire family more than I ever thought possible. My oldest son, Kade, wrote this letter to CoCo tonight after I told him to put his feelings on paper. He is 9 years old. I am going to type it exactly the way that he wrote it. Dear CoCo, I miss you very much. I hope you miss me to. I know where you are and I know your happy. I have been crying all day since I heard you died. That made me very sad, I'm still crying right know. It is going to be a very long time till I see you again but you will never leave my heart. I will be so happy when I see you again. I hope you have the best time ever. Love, Kade

Oh my gosh... *crying* I dont even know what to say... when a child says/writes heartfelt words like that, it is so so touching and fills your heart with sadness, yet at the same time, love. The letter your son wrote to CoCo was beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. That is one of the most sincere and loving things Ive ever read. Poor Kade... I know he is sad and must miss CoCo very much. I Know CoCo knew he was much loved. I think he would be sad if he knew Kade was so sad. I am so sorry to, that God took CoCo when Kade asked him not too... God knows best though...maybe he needed another special little Angel, and needed CoCo. Kade sounds like a very caring and loving young man. Im so sorry hes feeling so sad. I wish I could hug him and tell him what a nice letter that was, that he wrote. Thank you so much for sharing that with us... Again, I am so sorry for the heartache. Losing loved ones is never easy, and very hard to deal with. Im so so sorry. Please know you and your family are in my thoughts, and praying that you be comforted. You did everything you could, and most importantly, you loved CoCo... he knew that.

Why do I keep reading this post?! Im like drawn in...i've been bawling my eyes out every time I read a new post in this thread...I dunno what it is, but this glider is just....gosh, you guys have just touched my heart so much! I too...was wondering about the breeder. I know Angie said the breeder was a member here and was a very good one at that. But if the one glider came down with an illness....even without a necropsy...cant be proven what it really was...and now the other brother is getting sick...theres something going on, that needs to be figured out. I will pray for the best at the vets office tomorrow morning and Ill check back in first thing to see how everything went....Im so so so so sorry, the poor baby....

I really don't know what to say...I logged on today, hoping for good news. I'm really sorry . Tell Kade God really needed CoCo and now Looch needs him. Tell him to give all his love to Looch . I'm really sorry. I know CoCo won't be replaced, ever, but Looch is there for you right now bringing you comfort .
I really hope all your family (and all of us here that were hoping for the best) can feel better soon.

Its so hard for children, and some adults too to understand why this type of thing happens. His letter to CoCo was so sweet. Looch didn't eat that much BML last night...it is the 1st night that he didn't just tear it up. He did rummage through his tropical trail mix that we leave in his cage 24/7 now (so he always has some type of natural sugars available.) I got up every 1 1/2 to 2 hours tonight to just see if I could get any fluids in him...he took apple juice okay. He seems to be tired of drinking out of a syringe though. And I just really can't tell how much water that he took out of his water bottle. How do you guys tell this? He did eat some last night. I fed him a lot of mealies, I figured that he deserved them last night. I think that he had 10 total. He ate about 2 full grapes and some pured carrots. We had a bit of a false alarm last night. Looch was eating some of his BML and Jamie thought that he was throwing up....he wasn't throwing up. He was half asleep when eating it and he would fall asleep while chewing it and some would fall out of his mouth. This is the one thing that concerns me most though. I had to wake him up at 11.30 PM to eat his food, and he still acted too tired to eat. Looch is going to Angie and Mels today to spend some time with them while we work. Hopefully they can look at him and see what they think. He is supposed to go to the vet today, but I just learned that Dr. Murry isn't in the office today. I'm going to talk to Angie and see what she thinks. It is really nice to have people that know so much about gliders right there to help you whenever you need it...and with no problem at al. When I left for work this morning, I was relieved that Looch was going over there, "they will know what to do", I thought. Jamie had saved the piece of felt blanket that CoCo spent the majority of his time with the last couple of days. I wasn't aware that she had put it up some where, until this morning when she was upset and couldn't find it. I asked her what she was saving it for, and she wants to make a pillow out of it. We looked in a few places and couldn't find it anywhere. I then went to get the boys up for school, and walked into my 8 year olds bedroom (Kobe). There he laid, sound asleep, with CoCo's felt blanket in his hand. I swear, just when I think that I am through crying, something like this happens and it starts all over again.

I can't handle hearing about the death of these lil ones. I remember when my Baby died, his brother Tipsy was acting all strange.. Now we have him with two females Panga and Rascal and he is doing great... Until we got the girls, Tipsy wasn't doing so good. He would sleep during time when he'd normally be awake.. and he like walked the entire cage (we believe he was looking for Baby), normally he wouldn't go to the bottom of the cage.. but, he walked back and forth over the entire bottom of the cage.. I was heartbroken.. so for the next few weeks all day every day Tipsy was in my pocket.. I even took him on the 6 hour car ride to pick up the girls. I couldn't bare the thought of losing him too. And Tipsy wasn't himself during that time after Baby died. Normally Tipsy was a biter, he didn't bite or try to run from me. When I would try to put him in the cage he wouldn't let me go. He held on to me with his lil hands and just looked at me and it brought tears to my eyes.. because I knew he needed me now more than he had ever needed me before... I was having a tough time dealing with the loss of Baby.. and on top of that with the way Tipsy was acting I had to have surgery so I was in a lot of pain, physically and emotionally.. but, I put Tipsy above everything... Normally if I were to have him in my hand and not cover him so he wouldn't run away... he would jump and run .. but, Tipsy just laid in my hand looking at me.. For the first time... he didn't even try to get away.. I was happy for that.. but, there was something wrong.. he wasn't acting right... so after I got the two girls and introduced them.. Tipsy was doing lots better... once again he bites my fingers.. and he's playing every night.. doesn't go to the bottom of the cage anymore... he's doing really well, his color has gotten lots better and he's eating and drinking like he used to... He's become a momma's boy now tho.. because if I walk into their room and stand by the cage.. he will come up and look at me, even if he was sleeping, if I say his name.. he gets up and comes over to the side of the cage I am standing by and just sits there while I rub his tummy through the cage. And I must say.. reading this.. made me lose it.. because I started thinking about my Baby.. I just lost him.. on October 16th... around 8:30 pm. It was devistating because when he died, I was out of town, and he wasn't sick or anything .. I had someone babysitting my two gliders because me and my fiance were going away... and right after I called to say I'll be there in like 2 hours to get my kids.. I got the worst call I ever could have gotten.. I was told Baby died.. well.. now Baby is buried out back we have a little gravestone for him... so that I can always go out and visit with him if I want to... I took Tipsy out there and he sat right above where his brother was buried.. just about broke my heart... I know he knew that he was there.. And now I'm tearing up again.
Let me just say.. that although.. I didn't read this post until today.. after all the ordeal that CoCo went through.. I truly understand how you feel for losing him... I was angry.. I blamed myself.. while the sitter blamed herself... I'm not for sure exactly what caused Baby's death because I couldn't bring myself to have his body examined... However I do know that he is in a good place now... where he is being taken care of .. and is waiting for me.. and the rest of his family...
Anways... Jeremy... I'm so soo soo sorry for your loss... and I'm sending hugs your way... just be strong and be with Looch because he needs you, your wife and your kids more than ever right now.. and Mel and Angie.. are really great... I had talked to Mel after the loss of Baby and she was a total sweetheart.

[:"purple"] I just came across this post after reading Angie's post on USGN. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. You are so strong, I don't think I could have handled it. You did the best for him, he died knowing that he was loved. I'm sure Coco took many loving memories of you guys with him. You did the absalute best that anyone could have done. I am greatful that Coco found you guys, he touched your lives as he did many of us reading your postings. He was an angel sent to us, to remind us how precious this little guys are and how precious life is. How is Looch doing, please keep us updted and hang in there, we are here for you.[/]

Just a update on Looch: I am helping Mel babysit (she is napping right now) . He is eating well, taking BML and fluids, last time at 1:30. We are waiting for him to start moving around and then offering them, but will wake him every 3-4 hours if he is sleeping since the vet believes that Looch may also be hypoglycemic also, but is able to maintain his blood sugar better than CoCo did. He seems to be doing well right now. I am giving him lots of kisses from his family too. Please continue to pray for this little one. Angie

I am so sorry for your loss!!! I was so hoping this little guy would make it! He was such a fighter! It sounds like you only had him for a short time, but he had already made a real impact on your lives and hearts. By just reading about him, I could tell how precious he was. Again, I'm so sorry! Does anyone know what causes seizures like this?

This joey was diagnoised with Hypoglycemia after a blood test showed very low blood sugar. Little CoCo was unable to maintain a normal blood sugar for any length of time, because of this he had the seizures. He was seen by 3 vets, the last being my vet who I have much respect for. We attempted and tried with all our hearts to help save this little boy, but even with all we were doing his system could not improve. The siezures got worse as time went by..we are all so sad about this. Now we are watching his brother as he also has shown some signs in the past, he has had some unnormal movements and occassonialy gets lethargic. I have been around many joeys, and this is not normal behavior. Looch is being treated as the vet recommended. We don't know why these glider had hypoglycemia. We do now know that the father of the joeys had a positive history of HLP, there was no history of problems with the mother. I recieved a frantic call from this family, the person that they got these joeys from told them they "killed" CoCo, and is now wanting to take Looch back. This family has a bond with Looch and I know this won't happen. I can say without any hesitation at all that this is not true. I have been with this family since Sunday night trying to help them, as you can see from the pages of posts here, they put thier hearts into doing all they can for these gliders. Lots of people did the best they could caring for him. Needless to say, they are very upset about this. Angie

But I do not think that I can say it too many times. THANK YOU! I have tried to spare the board of what happened the night that CoCo died, but after what we went through tonight...I feel obligated to post this. The 1st major seizure that CoCo had was so severe that he vaulted himself over our coffee table. He then convulsed on the ground while my wife frantically wept. What I describe to you is the 1ST major seizure. He went through about 15 more of these the night/morning that he died. Jamie did not sleep for two nights. I am not kidding, she didn't sleep. She held CoCo in her arms, and every time that his head popped up..she was feeding him fluids or BML through a syringe. On top of this, she missed a day of work to cart CoCo around to to vets after she had taken him to an emergency clinic on Sunday night. Looch had a great night tonight. He played, he ate, he chased balls around. He is still not 100% healthy, we are worried about him. But with that being said, we enjoyed the heck out of him tonight. Are we still remorsing over CoCo? Yes! But Looch helped us a lot tonight. Then, my wife had to deal with the " breeder" tonight. Within the 1st minute of the phone call there was no "I am sorry what you have been through". There was a "You killed CoCO." I don't even know what else to say. The breeder told my wife (who is still crying over the loss of CoCo) that if we did not give Looch back that she would cash the check in which we paid for them...both. Even though the vet bills tripled the amount that we paid for both of them in less than 48 hours. I am really trying to be nice, but I am so upset over this whole ordeal. Not only did my wife giver her heart, soul and every waking second to CoCo.....she had to be told tonight that, by the breeder, (who obviously has issues with accepting responsibility) that she was the reason that CoCo died.

She is having some major computer problems and can't log on right now. She is very upset at the death of Coco, and only wants what's best for them. She feels bad they are sick, and does not understand why. She did NOT accuse anyone of "killing" the glider. She has said she will NOT cash the check they gave her, and only wants to provide medical for this sick baby. She really doesn't want their money at all. I have a few questions. Not much has been posted about diet, temperatures, pouches, housing, etc. All I've heard on diet, is that they won't eat the BML, and ARE eating some kind of TRAIL MIX (like nuts, dried fruit?), and worms. I see a lot of fat, and phosphorus here. Very little moisture. Dried fruit doesn't have that much sugar, either. I would eliminate the trail mix all together. Worms for now, as well. BML or Ensure force fed if necessary. Oral or sub-q calcium with the high phosphorus content he's been eating. Gliderade, Kerns fruit nectar, apples, papaya, canteloupe, yogurt, peas, maybe baby food sweet potatoes, hand fed-offered every couple hours. Keep him in a room at least 75 degrees F. The vet you said ran a blood test and found hypoglycemia. Did he test calcium or protein levels, or anything else? I'd also run urine and fecals again. One thing I can say is that these guys were fed BML their whole life, as were their parents-and showed no signs of this when they left their first home. Calcium deficiency as well as hypoglycemia is extremely rare in gliders who eat their BML, which until they left their first home last Saturday, they did. I would look for a secondary cause here. Iwould add, that the lady these babies came from would be willing to do anything to save Looch, which is the only reason she made the offer to take him. At this point, let's keep this thread on track, and focus on the glider and whatever is wrong. To bring in hearsay and start finger pointing helps nobody and least of all, this ill baby.

And no, she has no joeys. These were her only ones, and her SINGLE pair has none IP. Please let's not go here, folks, or I will need to move this thread to Mod Review.

In addition, since the other glider is now ill and it is a separate topic, please start a new thread in Health and Hygiene for little Looch. I am afraid this will get lost in such a long thread as this already is. I sincerely hope the problem can be found, and he recovers to live a long and happy life. He has my prayers.

Thanks Jen for your concern, I admit that I should not have made that post last night. Emotion and lack of sleep took over my better judgement. For the record, I have gone through here and reread the thread (boy, that was enjoyable). I said that the guys WERE taking BML...just the only way that they would take it was through a syringe. Jen, I answered all of your questions in a PM. I have been keeping a 24 hour journal on both Looch and CoCo since Sunday night, the journal includes diet, activity, etc. I was only making health updates here on the board when I could...to help me vent. Anyone that was attempting to help me in depth (Angie and Melanie) were made aware of the 24 hour activity. If anyone else is interested in this information, I would be happy to share it.

FYI, CoCo never had dried fruit. Everything that CoCo was eating was through a syringe.
The dried fruit is just something that I have placed in Looch's cage when he is going to be in there for a little bit. I have only been doing it for 2 days. I use the dried fruit because it can sit in there a little bit without spoiling.
I have done this by suggestion from 3 or 4 members on this board.
