Interesting, though, how they wave their (supposed) USDA license around: I wonder, has anyone contacted the USDA with our concerns about these charlatans? I'm in Canada (the second the step foot in this country.. <grumble grumble>) so it's a little out of my hands but it's just a thought of a way to nip this problem in the bud.

I have not officially joined GliderCentral yet but have read things many times and really wanted to give my two cents worth on my BAD experience with Perfect Poctet Pets. Last year I bought two gliders from a Christmas show from (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets, bought and boy and girl. They were losing there hair and just look rough I contacted a lady name Suz from Suz Sugar Gliders and asked her many question and she was SO helpful to me with my babies, I changed their diet immediently from the pellet diet they sold me and within a week or two both babies were bright eyes and active and hair was coming back. They have both been very loving little friends, my girl is a little shy and sometimes tempermental only wanting held on her terms but she is getting better and can be SO sweet, not my boy is just an angel but seemed so small to me he is like half the size of my girl at one year old now. I just met a man last night that raises gliders, he also likes the pellet food which I told him my opinion on (BAD) but his gliders are beautiful and healthy looking. Anyway I told him about my experience and that we got a male and female because we wanted one or two pregnancies and then we were going to get my boy neutered and asked him if he know why my boy at one year would not have gotten his bald spot yet. He asked to see my boy and turned him over and informed me that (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets had neutered my boy before ever selling him to us at the assumed age of 8 weeks old. I cried and cried to learn this that a company could be as sick and have no caring for these little babies. I want everyone to know what they did to mutilate my boy before I got him and then never inform me about it. SO now my girl will not be able to have babies with her companion. I'm just sick about it. Long story short (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets is HORIBBLE!!!!!! I need to know if anyone has any suggestion for me getting (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets in trouble for what they did to my boy. And according to the man I just met they are now doing this to all their male so they can "corner" the market. SICK, SICK, SICK!!!

Any ideas and help on how to contact someone to get the company in trouble would be appreciated!!!

I'm sorry for your experience. Word of mouth with your personal (not hearsay) experiences is helpful to spread the word. Pulling the joeys too young and neutering before they're mature seem like inhumane acts, but I think you'd need documentation (proof) to present a case (and multiple instances to present a class action-type case). You can try contacting different animal rights organizations (e.g., Humane Society) to see what suggestions they have.

If you haven't yet taken your babies in to a glider-knowledgeable vet for a wellness exam, I highly recommend that. Perhaps you were sold two females?

most of the gliders are also inbred from (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets,so, they did you a favor in the long run. most gliders from (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets that have joeys, usually don't live. many gliders bought from (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets don't live very long, either.
in time, you can always buy another male, go thru the rules for intro's w/them, & in time have a little family. the neutered male you have will be good for both the parents, he'll be a good buddy to the other male, & can turn into a pretty good helper w/the joeys, i'm told.
my initial dreams didn't come true w/my first two babies, i have learned alot since last may, & my cage now has a whole new set of gliders in it. my dream will someday come true, but for that to happen, i first want to make sure that i know all there is to know, & my goal is that the only way anyone will die on me will be because of old age. i am going to strive towards perfection, & i know that everyone else wants to reach that same plateau w/thier babies.
everyone here is a wonderful help to each other, this is all we have, because no one else knows gliders more than those who are on this forum. i love it here, & i always will.

i was at our town's semi-anual festival and mentioned my gliders to a man who worked at a booth i was shopping at. he told me he was planning on getting a glider from some place he saw at a fair that had them for his 6 year old daughter. my jaw dropped and i quickly listed off things he should know (diet is not just pellets, they need atleast 2, nocturnal, marsupial, very expensive vet bills, will bite and bring blood, most have diseases from (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets, live 12 to 15 years if properly taken care of, not good with children (atleast not that young), etc. opposite of the things (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets told him.) and gave him links to this site, sesg.suggies.net and sugarglider.com. begged him to do more research if he was sincerely interested in getting one and to find a breeder or take in a rehome or rescue instead of going from (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets. i htink he listened. i hope so atleast.

he also mentioned that while he was there, several people came up to the seller and started complaining about the gliders they received. youd think that'd tip someone off that something isnt right but i guess he didnt think much of it. apparently he knows the vendor. idk.

Well, I had red flags up when I got Keiko, but since I had never even heard of (much less seen) a sugar glider before, I felt I might never again, so bought her after two hours of questioning the vendor. I'm college educated, so you'd think I'd know better! I wonder how many others out there are of the same initial mindset.

The best we can do is help educate folks. Let them know of availability from the reputable breeders and rescue sites, as well as of proper care (including a glider-knowledgeable vet.

I too was duped by (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets in September. I have a very crabby female that is slowly taming me to her ways. Luckily the vet gave her a clean bill of health. When I was trying to decide male or female, (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets told me that all the males are neutered because the USDA requires it -- due to licensing regulations. Since I wasn't trying to breed, I didn't think much of it at the time. So this is definately (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets trying to corner the market. Unfortunatley, the local pet store also sells gliders and has a bowl full of "glider chow" for them to eat. Nothing else.

This is terrible. How can these companies be allowed to operate like this? I've had similar experiences with people claiming to be breeders and have sold me sick pets.

I wish more could be done to reign in these disreputable dealers. With all the reports of problems, why they are permitted to operate is truly upsetting.

If (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets told you that all the males are neutered because the USDA requires it, it was probably so you would buy the female you were looking at. They don't neuter their boy suggies.

I bought from (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets in South Florida almost two months ago
(again, not knowing (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets was shady)...they told me the boys were nicer and that they neuter all their boys cuz it was the law in Florida. He recommended I take a boy for better disposition reasons...but yes, they do neuter their suggie boys claiming it is state regulation.

THEY CLAIM THEY NEUTER THEIR BABIES, BUT THEY DON'T! When I bought my baby he was intact, I just had him neutered. They claim that they NEVER sell a baby intact. Bull, or I wouldn't have a vet bill to prove it. They are supposed to neuter them before selling though. As far as a USDA license, that is worthless. I called the USDA and apparently anyone who wants to put up the money can get of of these things, sad yes, but true unfortunately!

i was at a christmas craft show in raleigh nc and saw them there. something should be done about these people. as i held one glider he looked sick and i told the man that but he claimed he was handled too much and tired. which is a lie. i know a sick glider when i see one. and the cages etc. were so small i wouldnt even use them for a travel cage overnight. something got to be done about this cruel breeder.

Those of you who know what I am talking about, it is with a heavy heart and great sadness that I tell you my Mion has lost his fight. He passed away last night from his long fight with his recent surgeries and attempts to save his life. I am sad yes, but my fight will go on! I have to be his voice now and God help me I WILL NOT STOP until I get justice! Justice for Mion, but also for all the other Gliders who have suffered needlessly at the hands of these animals I dare call Human! I will miss him dearly as we grew so close in the short time we had him, but he will be happy in his final resting place beneath the apple tree in our yard where there is no more pain. He did love his apples! Thanks again for all the support, and trust in knowing I will seek justice for these guys.

I purchased my Harley from a man who had bought him at a home show. I had seen them at a pet expo here in CT and I was intriqued by them. Long story short, it did not work out for the glider and their son. I bought him and we got him health insurance and he has a vet appt 12/27 to get all checked out. I was told he was neutered but it does not look like it to me.. I will let you know after his vet appt if he is. I had no idea they were a glider mill and I hate puppy mills so it upsets me that I have a mill glider. but I love him just the same and hope he is going to live a long,happy life with me. I can tell he is growing and he seems okay , but the vet check will make me feel so much better.
I am sorry for the loss of your Mion. I only have had Harley for 3 weeks and I am so fond of him already.

What is the name of the owner of (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets? Are they related to Pocket Pets of Dallas? Are there large breeders out there that acually do a good job of breeding and educating new buyers? What a shame that people could and would be allowed to do such terrible things!

Thank you all for the kind words. I don't think I will ever stop crying. The company operates under Pocket Pets Inc. the guy who sold me my Mion was Adam Elbaum. Not sure if that is the same as the one in Dallas or not. I do know that they go all over from state to state and their corporate office is supposed to be located in Florida.

im so glad you are willing to not give up on these people. they are worse than animals to call them animals is not appropriate. since an animal wouldnt be as cruel as these guys are. yes the must be stopped one way or another if we all band together. and not give up the fight maybe we can finally get somewhere.
